Marjorie Byers divides her time between Santa Cruz la Laguna on Lake Atitlan and  New York City. After earning a bachelor's degree in journalism, she worked for many years in publishing, marketing, and communications. She has an masters' degree in social work with a concentration in policy and has worked for several non profit organizations.  She first visited Lake Atitlan in 1993 and feels fortunate to be able to support the lake at this critical time.

 

Cynthia Davis is a year round resident of Santa Cruz la Laguna where she and her husband have had a home since 2000. She is a board member of Amigos de Santa Cruz, a U.S. non profit organization that provides nutritional, health, and educational programs and support for the people of Santa Cruz.  Cynthia also volunteers at CECAP (Centro de Capacitación), the vocational school of Amigos, which offers local youth and adults training and jobs in the industrial arts, culinary arts, sewing, computers, beading, and other artisan crafts. Cynthia is an artist and also makes incredible hummus.

 

 

 

Paul Wray lives in Santa Cruz la Laguna several months each year.  He used to teach English and computer courses when he was in New York.  A former Peace Corps volunteer in Colombia, he is fluent in Spanish and a gifted translator.

 

 

 

 

Peter Byers, MD, first visited the lake as a teenager volunteering in Guatemala. An emergency medicine physician, he returned to the lake for a rotation in clinical Spanish with a local doctor. He has a special interest in global water issues and in wastewater treatment solutions. He is a former Peace Corps volunteer, having served in Cameroon.
